You need flexibility in your schedule and ... I need it in mine. I offer highly competent word processing and transcription services, as well as online research, Website maintenance, editing, and proofreading.
Benefits to you: I provide my own equipment, and the costs of paper, ink, etc., are included in my rates. Because I am accessible by phone (numbers provided to clients) and e-mail (email@example.com), I am available virtually 24/7. You can e-mail me a rough draft and have a finished document e-mailed back to you, saving you time and energy costs. I am also amenable to telephone dictation and tape transcription. I can pick up and deliver assignments from your office in the Roanoke, Virginia, area.
My experience: Over 35 years' legal experience, with 6 years' experience in various aspects of the insurance business. Additionally, I am detail-oriented and have a very good eye for proofreading and editing and excellent knowledge of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. I've written articles for a local newspaper and published magazine articles, short stories, poetry, and one novel.

Youíve spent a long time writing a book (congratulations!) and now youíre ready to begin the submissions process. And -- you want it letter-perfect before that first agent or publisher sees it, right? Of course, you do! Thatís where EditU comes in. Iíll proofread your manuscript line by line for spelling, punctuation, grammar, formatting, and context/continuity. If something requires clarification, Iíll so advise. I may suggest something more workable, but I wonít rewrite. I donít offer developmental editing because, frankly, I'm not qualified for such in-depth work. What I will promise is a crisp, polished document with no embarrassing errors.
Many times, youíll find that youíve looked at your work so often that you can almost recite it by rote. Chances are that by that time, youíre unable to see your own errors. I know thatís true of my own work. I can spot an error immediately in someone elseís work, but not my own. Thatís when another set of eyes comes in handy. Services like mine are particularly valuable to those who are self-publishing and don't have the resources of large publishing houses available to them.
What else will we proofread or edit for you?
How much does it cost?
Double-spaced book manuscripts, fiction and non-fiction, are $2.00 per page; $4.00 per page for single-spaced.
All other pricing will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis, depending on the page count and turnaround time.
How do you hire me? Click on the "Request a Quote" link, or just e-mail me and tell me what you need. I'll get back to you ASAP.
Once hired, you may e-mail me your work in MS Word or WordPerfect format (using a 12-point font, preferably Verdana or something similar), or you may mail me a paper copy. If you use the mail, please don't forget to include a SASE in your package so I can return your work to you. Files in .pdf format will also be accepted, albeit they are more difficult to work with vis-a-vis physical corrections. When done by e-mail, your document will be returned to you with spelling and other errors highlighted in an easy to see color and an addendum containing my notes on contextual and other errors. Paper copies will be redlined, with notes in the margins.
How is payment tendered?
Once I've given you a quote, one-half (1/2) of the total price is required in advance, by mail. Upon completion of your project, you will be responsible for promptly paying the balance. You will be sent a final payment invoice to be remitted by mail, money order only.
